You've got questions, I've got answers! > Everything you ever wanted to know about Rolfing > Well, what does it feel like?
The sensation varies quite a bit through the session from very light and subtle, to stronger pressure that, at its most intense, can feel slightly burning-esque. Because of the variation in intensity throughout a session, people don’t feel overwhelmed. As your practitioner, I’m always tracking your response and working very consciously with you. It also happens veeeeerrrry slowly. Watching a Rolfing session is like watching paint dry (trust me; I had to watch loads of them when I was in training). So there aren’t any sudden movements or surprises.
Still curious?:
Well, sometimes words aren’t the best at articulating physical sensation, what can ya do? If you’re still curious, there’s really only one way to find out ... and you get bonus points for any new words you invent to describe what it feels like. (my itty bitty clients are the best at descriptions: “It’s like a bird is on my shoulder, and it’s flapping it’s wings, but also kind of stepping on me, then it flys away and it’s like aaaaaaaaah [deep exhale]” or “it feels a little like brown, but maybe with polka-dots” honest to God- these are from a 4 year old and a 7 year old respectively. They somehow didn’t make it to the testimonials page...)
